Start a rewarding health care career by enrolling in the Dental Assistance program at CDI College. In the Dental Assistance program, you will develop a fundamental understanding of the role of the dental assistant and the broad knowledge base and skill set required to work in this career field. You will study Oral Anatomy, Pharmacology and Lesions and Oral Diseases. You will learn about hygiene and asepsis, oral treatments, and how to work with assorted dental materials.
In addition, you will also learn about professional ethics and interpersonal communication. First aid and occupational health and safety are also covered. You will also learn to work effectively in a dental lab and in various chair-side assistance roles, including operative dentistry, orthodontics and pedodontics. To complete the Dental Assistance program, you must participate in 90 hours of practicum where you will learn to be dental office team member and carry out the day-to-day tasks of a dental assistant.
Dental Office Administrator

Dental Receptionist Coordinator
The Dental Receptionist Coordinator course is aimed at students looking for an administrative career in dental surgeries or specialist orthodontists and oral surgeons offices.
Students are educated in general office administrative skills and then study more specific dental/medical modules.
Key modules in the Dental Receptionist Coordinator program include:

As part of the Dental Receptionist Coordinator diploma program, students must complete 80 hours of work experience in a practicum approved by CDI College. This practicum allows students to experience a real work environment and to apply their dental office skills and knowledge on the job.
Intra Oral Dental Assistant
CDI College's Intra-Oral Dental Assistant diploma program prepares students to compete for great jobs in the dental industry. The program covers all elements of dental care, pharmacology, oral pathology, and dental radiography. Students learn how to prepare patients for treatment, assist dentists during treatment, process radiographs, perform infection control procedures, maintain patient records, and other general administrative duties. Students study environmental health and safety and oral facial science, along with other core dentistry subjects.
Medical and Dental Office Administrator
Medical office administrators work in fast-paced medical office jobs in environments like hospitals, clinics and doctors' offices. CDI College's Medical Office Administrator program teaches a balance of office procedures and technology like Microsoft Word and Excel programs, and medical fundamentals like medical terminology, anatomy and medical transcription. Students gain real-world experience through a mandatory practicum.
Students continue to be supported after graduation through our Career and Employment Services department, which assist with job search and interviewing skills, employer expectations, and resume preparation.
Expanded Training in Orthodontics/Scaling
Looking to take your career as a dental assistant to the next level? CDI College's Expanded Training in Orthodontics program trains practicing Certified Dental Assistants and Registered Dental Hygienists in specialized orthodontic treatments and procedures. Students will learn to use the instruments, equipment and accessories used in orthodontics, as well as the various categories of orthodontic treatment.
They will also learn about orthodontic treatments, including orthodontic appliances. In addition, students will also learn to organize, prepare, and perform orthodontic duties such as taking health histories, documentation of procedures and fitting and removal of various appliances.
Once this module has been successfully completed, the student must apply to the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia (CDSBC) to have this designation added to their certificate.
This training module is 50 hours in length.
