MA in Pastoral Counseling
A concentrated study in the philosophy and technique of
Christian counseling. Designed to prepare the professional pastor
or church worker for practical competence in dealing with spiritual
growth problems, psychological problems, premarital counseling,
marriage counseling, and parent-teen relations.

Only courses and degrees from regionally accredited
institutions or those accredited by other accrediting agencies
recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (e.g., SACS,
TRACS, AABC, etc.) will be evaluated for transfer credit.
Applicants must request that official transcripts be sent directly from
the Registrar(s) of the previous school(s) to the Office of
Admissions. These transcripts must be received before an admission
decision will be made.
Credit will be accepted for those courses that are equivalent to
courses offered at Liberty in which applicants have made a grade of
C or better. Transcripts are evaluated by the Registrar’s Office under
the guidelines established by the Senate Committee on Academic
and Admissions Standards.
Undergraduate credit may be allowed for courses completed at
military service schools if this credit is recommended in A Guide to
the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services
(ACE Guide). The work must also be applicable to the student’s
program of study.

PhD in Counseling-Pastoral Counseling
Liberty University’s Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling program provides advanced training in the field of pastoral care and counseling, equipping individuals for work in either private or public practice, and provides the necessary qualification to teach at the university level. This degree comprises specialized courses platformed on biblical principles that supply the values, knowledge and skills needed for effective work as a professional counselor. It is well-suited for individuals, with either a master’s degree in the field of counseling or a seminary degree, who seek to expand their professional standing in the community. The program consists of intensives, internships and a flexible practicum, providing experience in the academic teaching field and preparing students for work in their particular area of interest.
Admission into this program requires students to submit a MAT or GRE score that is no more than two years old.
