The Spanish-American Institute was founded in 1955. The school’s mission responds to the needs of its changing student population. The Institute originally provided communicative adult basic English language training to newly arrived immigrants primarily from the Spanish-speaking Americas. The Institute responded to their additional need for job-entry office skills by adding career-training courses such as stenography, typing, and bookkeeping.
